We’re happy to introduce Instagram direct-posting to Postcron! – Media

    [ad_1]

Yes, that’s right! You can now schedule your Instagram content and Postcron will do the hard work for you: no notifications or reminders!

    Now, first things first:

Before you start scheduling your posts, make sure the profile you’re looking into posting to is an Instagram Business account as opposed to a Personal profile, as auto-posting only works for this type of account. If your account is a Personal profile, you can easily convert it into a Business account, which not only will allow you to post directly, but will also give you access to a lot of extra perks that we mention below.

You can also keep it Personal and use notifications to push your Instagram posts through. Or you can even have both options in hand, as scheduling Instagram Stories is only available through notifications. It’s completely up to you and you should definitely tailor Postcron options to fit your needs!

Another thing you should take into account is that in order to direct-post to Instagram, you’ll need to link a Facebook business page to your Business Instagram account. We’ll walk you through converting your profile and linking it to a Facebook page below.

Why should I have a Business Account?

According to Instagram, having a business profile will help your customers easily connect to your business as it allows you to include additional information directly to your profile. You’ll be able to add a phone number, an email address and your business’s physical address. It’s mandatory to include at least 1 contact option. Once you add your contact information, a Contact button will be displayed near the top of your profile. When potential customers click that button, they’ll see options like Call, Email and Get Directions, depending on the contact information you provided.

Additionally, with a Business profile, you get access to Insights on the Instagram App. These insights will help you learn more about your followers and how they engage with your business. You’ll also have access to a Professional Dashboard, where you can track your performance, access and discover pro tools, and explore educational information curated by Instagram.

    Converting from Personal to Business

    • On the Instagram App, go to your profile and tap the Menu located in the upper right corner.
    • Then, tap on Settings, on the bottom of the screen.
    • Now, tap Account, click on Switch to Professional Account, and follow the steps.
    • Make sure you choose Business instead of Creator to enable direct-posting.

Connecting your Facebook Page to Instagram

    • To connect a Facebook Business Page to your Instagram account go to your profile on the Instagram App and select Edit Profile.
    • Then, under Public Business Information or Profile Information, select Page.
    • Now, choose either Connect Existing Page, or Create Facebook Page, if you’d like to create a new one, and follow the instructions.

This can also be done directly from Facebook. In that case, you should:

    • Open your Facebook Page, select Settings from the left menu, and then select Instagram.
    • To add an Instagram account to your Page, select Connect Account.
    • Enter your Instagram account’s Username and Password, and select Log in. If you do not have a business account, you will be prompted to convert your personal account.

If the page you’d like to connect doesn’t appear in the drop-down from your profile, refer to Instagram Help Center to troubleshoot it.

Connecting a Facebook Page to your Instagram profile will make it easier to use all of the features available for businesses across the Facebook family of apps. Keep in mind that at this time, only one Facebook Page can be connected to your business account.

Now that you’re all set up, you just need to connect your Instagram account to Postcron, and you should be good to go!

How to connect my Instagram account to Postcron for direct-posting:

On Postcron’s dashboard click on the Instagram icon under Add Accounts and select Business. If you haven’t granted Postcron the required permissions to post on your behalf, you’ll be prompted by Facebook to accept them. Once that’s done, you’ll see the Instagram accounts connected to your Facebook profile through your Pages. Select the ones you want to add to Postcron, and click on Add. That’s it.

Scheduling posts to Instagram with Postcron:

Now that you’re all set up, it’s time to start scheduling. First select the accounts you want to post to on the account selector:

Then, attach either an image or a video to your post by clicking on the corresponding button. Instagram is a media-centric platform, so adding media is mandatory. To add a copy to your post type or paste directly into Postcron’s text box. You might also want to include emojis to your post’s copy by clicking on the emoji button.

Keep in mind that Instagram allows you to include up to 2200 characters and 30 hashtags to your post, and you’ll find counters on the bottom right corner of the publisher to help you keep track of that.

Once your post is looking good, you have three scheduling options: Post Now, Schedule and Predefined Times to set the date and time you want your post to be published and leave it to Postcron.

How to create the best images to share to Instagram?

When designing images to share to Instagram, and other platforms, you might face two major difficulties:

    • Knowing the ideal sizes for each social network.
    • Making eye-catching, attractive images.

Both of them are essential and will definitely help your posts have a real impact on your audience! To achieve that without resorting to complicated tools that demand some graphic design expertise, you can try lifesaving photo editing tools like Arstudio. They will allow you to make interesting and good-looking designs in a matter of minutes! And the best thing? ArtStudio is completely free!

Maximize your income on social media, with a minimum effort! Get started with Postcron today, and schedule all of your Instagram posts. We’ll do the rest for you!

  • Let’s Talk About Spanish PPC – SEO

Let’s Talk About Spanish PPC – SEO

    [ad_1]

    Spanish-PPC-Twitter

As digital marketers, we have all been there — stuck on what to do next and trying to reinvent the wheel. We know what it is like to run out of ideas, to try every strategy, to test every new feature until we get to that point where we have done it all. And then what?

What if I tell you that in order to come out on top, you don’t need to reinvent things? What if you can try something new while barely changing the way you do things now? What I am talking about is keeping in place all the strategies you know work, along with all the content you know sells, and then simply translating them into the second-most spoken language in the United States.

    Español.

Why should we focus on Spanish over all other languages?

    Screen Shot 2021-07-22 at 12-14-19 PM-png

This is a very fair question as there are hundreds of languages spoken in households all across the United States. Over 20% of Americans are bilingual and this segment of the population has more than doubled in the last 30 years. Additionally, the percentage of languages spoken at home is on the rise, from Spanish to Tagalog.

With so many language options to choose from, the reason I am focusing on Spanish is because, besides English, it is the most commonly-spoken language in the United States.

And since we are on the subject of bilingual speakers, I have a myth to bust. Most marketers believe that bilingual strategies will only be effective in major metropolitan areas. For this reason, it is not uncommon to see billboard and public transit ads in other languages posted in New York City or Los Angeles. However, these same billboard and public transit ads are not utilized outside major cities and, furthermore, are rarely used in digital marketing. But when you look at the map of the United States and evaluate the number who speak a foreign language at home, you can find pockets of speakers in every state. In fact, the state with the largest percentage increase of foreign language speakers at home was Nevada with a 1,088% increase since 1980.

The Hispanic population is made up of 60.5 million people which comprises nearly 20% of the country’s population. The United States has more Spanish speakers than every country other than Mexico. Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population; for every two people added to the population, one is Hispanic.

Hispanics represent 20 different nationalities, but the U.S. population has a large percentage coming from Mexico, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.

The Hispanic consumer is very important to the U.S. economy because they control $1.5 trillion in buying power. This is up 212% from the last decade! Not only that, their consumption of products and services has increased by 42% in the same time period. Additionally, studies show that 66% of U.S. Hispanics pay attention to online ads and — more importantly — 93% take action after seeing the ads online, rendering them an incredible asset to the world of digital marketing.

The real question we need to be asking ourselves is, if they represent such a significant portion of our online population, why is no one talking to them online? They represent a significant portion of the population, they have money, and they have a big desire to spend it.

Why should digital marketers invest in Spanish?

Screen Shot 2021-07-22 at 12.21.59 PMScreen Shot 2021-07-22 at 12.31.14 PM

Let’s dig into how to actually implement the strategy (that is not technically a strategy).

    Setting up a campaign correctly

Like with any experiment, we need to follow the scientific method and separate our variables. These campaigns should be treated as a test and each language should be tested out separately. The test budget I recommend is 20-30% of what you would normally spend in a campaign. In terms of their setup, there are a few nuances we want to watch out for when considering bilingual campaigns. In the language setting, I like to add the language I am testing, as well as the main language of the country; in this case, English.

Another important thing to consider when setting up ad scheduling, is time zones. Google Ads and Bing Ads treat this feature very differently. In Google, we are looking at the time zone in which the account is created and, in Bing, the time zone of the end user. If you are testing bilingual and international campaigns, make sure you are not scheduling them during times your target audience is sleeping.

The rest is quite easy because you have already done the heavy lifting and testing. You will keep the structure the same and begin by simply selecting a few of your best-performing ad groups, or 30-50 of the top-performing keywords.

    Translation

Translating ads is costly unless you can do it yourself. I know that not everyone has the knowledge or confidence to do it on their own, so I usually recommend a free tool like Google Translate. Even as a native speaker, I use this tool to double check my own work.

Free tools like Google Translate do a great job, but can be very time-consuming if a large amount of keywords or ad copy translation is needed. One of my favorite hacks in Google Sheets is using the Google Translate function. GoogleTranslate allows you to, in seconds, translate everything efficiently.

Screen Shot 2021-07-22 at 12.36.20 PM

I always suggest having a native Spanish speaker double check your work if possible because, like all languages, the meaning and words can vary greatly, depending where you are from.

I attended the Women in Search and Digital Marketing Speak My Language Conference and learned that the word we use in the United States for pants is not the same everywhere else. If you were to use that same word in the United Kingdom, you would instead be referring to underpants. If you are a clothing retailer in the United Kingdom, this is vital information. You could be bidding on a word with incorrect intent, missing out on all the good clicks by not using the proper term — trousers. That is just one example of the importance of using the correct verbiage in a multilingual country. Within the Spanish language, 20 countries are represented, and so a term as simple as bus may be completely different elsewhere, depending on your country of origin.

Even if you do not have a Spanish coworker or friend to assist you, there are some noteworthy places to ask for help. Twitter and Reddit have large communities with people from all over the world to help translate or double check your work.

Screen Shot 2021-07-22 at 12.38.44 PM

    Important Ad Copy Considerations

Crafting the correct ad copy is important when reaching any audience, but crafting the perfect message in a language that may not be your own is a Herculean task. Thankfully, the Spanish speakers in the United States are an easy audience to work with. Though they are used to consuming their online media in English, the majority are at home speaking purely Spanish, or at least bilingually, with low expectations in regards to the quality of the online content. Fifty-two percent are using English browser settings, not as a preference, but because they have no other choice.

Screen Shot 2021-07-22 at 12.42.59 PM

When viewing ads, 88% of Hispanics will pay attention regardless of language when it includes an aspect of their culture. Obviously, the best practice here is to translate your ads 100%, but I also believe it is ok to translate 50% or even to not translate at all. The goal we are trying to achieve here is to show searchers quality information the first time they try looking for it. In the SERP, it is ok to have an English ad pointing to a Spanish keyword, because you will most likely be one of the few trying to fight for that space and make it to the top. It is better to have a well-written English ad than a Spanish ad with mistakes.

Screen Shot 2021-07-22 at 12.48.16 PM

    Mobile

Hispanics spend two more hours per week using their smartphones than all other demographics in the United States. Having a mobile plan is key to reach this audience. In fact, 68% of Hispanics who are searching on Google do it on a mobile device. Bidding higher on mobile, crafting mobile-specific ads, and creating Call-Only Campaigns could prove very successful as a bilingual mobile strategy.

    YouTube

Advertising on YouTube is an essential part of reaching the Hispanic audience of the United States. Why? Because according to Neilsen, more Hispanics watch YouTube than any other cable network. When creating video content, we have good news — there is no need to translate these ads (which is a much more complex endeavor than text translation). Sixty percent of Hispanics watch content in English the majority of the time. Don’t forget to award yourself bonus points for including aspects of Hispanic culture to videos targeted to this audience!

What I find is interesting is how 75% of Hispanics use YouTube to learn about new products and to make informed purchasing decisions.

As you can see, Spanish PPC is a powerful way to connect with new users without having to break your formula or the bank. It also has another huge benefit — it opens the door to making searching online accessible for all. By simply translating or including elements of a different culture into keywords and ads, we are extending an open invitation for people to feel comfortable and catered to when searching online.

  • How to own the social media game in 4 simple steps! – Media

How to own the social media game in 4 simple steps! – Media

    [ad_1]

Social media has grown so much over the years that today it is an essential place for advertising your products or services. However, entering this virtual reality world might get you feeling dizzy and even lost. There are so many different social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Snapchat, TikTok… That you might ask yourself: Which ones should I start off with? How many times a day should I post? What kind of posts should I make?

Many businesses already have a social media strategy running but they notice after a while that it doesn’t present them with the results they expected (that if they even measure them!). This might be the outcome of not setting a clear goal before starting your campaign. We’ve listed some goals you might have below, so you can begin by giving this a proper thought:

    • Increase community engagement. Asking questions, using hashtags and posting user-generated-content it’s a great way to make your followers feel interested in participating in your campaign.
    • Generate leads and sales. Making sure to alert your customers about special discounts, new releases and updates.
    • Increase brand awareness. Your social media accounts must reflect your brand’s personality in a way that it’s easy to identify and that distinguishes your brand from others.
    • Expand your audience. It’s all about growing numbers in this one. More followers, more likes, more shares!
    • Boost web traffic. Adding your links to posts is the best way to make leads find their way into your website!

Whichever goal you set, once you’ve decided what you want, it will be a lot easier to define your content strategy!

Aside from posting regularly, it’s very important to make an impact and to enhance the social media image of your company. And while it’s great to maintain an active presence online, it is ideal that it doesn’t take up much of your time. The best way to make sure you don’t end up sitting in front of the computer staring at a blank post is to plan ahead and organize your content.

This is why we’ve decided to share these four tips with you, so you can improve your campaign and make sure you have all the tools you need!

    1. Social listening

We’re not just talking about hearing what your friends have to say about that new jacket you just bought. Social Listening means actually monitoring conversations people have on social media. It is searching for hashtags, keywords and mentions that might be relevant to your business. This is important because you want to be aware of what is going on in your surroundings to ensure your content is relevant by always posting useful and interesting information, and to follow your competitors strategies in order to gain wisdom from them.

There are a lot of social listening tools out there. Pick the one of your choice and begin your research!

In short, make sure to pay special attention to:

    • Mentions of your product and/or brand

Or really any information going around on social media that you feel it’s relevant to your marketing strategy, and that could improve your content. It can be anything from a single hashtag on Twitter, from a discussion about your product on a random online forum.

    1. Analyze what you’ve found… and use it!

Here it’s important to notice if what you found carries sentiment or feedback about your product. Are people saying good things about your service or complaining about it? Write it down, and even discuss it with your team. Listening to your customer’s suggestions might be a great place to start improving your brand, or making some adjustments.

It’s also important to notice which trends are going around. This might be just the inspiration you needed to launch a new product or service and to identify the new audience you are trying to reach.

You also need to be on the lookout for new customers, so make sure to track phrases potential buyers would use. Are people asking or suggesting something specific? Again, report it back to your team. Make sure you are not missing any leads!

Last, but not least, keep an eye open for any updates relating to the industry. Perhaps there is a new competitor in town, or perhaps your customers have come up with a new way to call your product.  Anything that should be on your next social listening is important to keep track of.

    1.  Update your Content Calendar and schedule your posts!

Here’s when you get to work with what you found. Set up your content for the week or month. If you have already done this step, this is when you can include new hashtags to your posts, proofread your text and make sure your visuals are ready to go.

We know many starter businesses don’t have much time to work on their content, so remember you can also work with user-generated-content, memes and beautiful images created easily. On the last item, we recommend using our image editing tool, ArtStudio, where you’ll find several layouts and models to work with!

Once you get everything ready, you can easily set up a spreadsheet or .csv file with your posts and schedule them all at once using Postcron. You can literally schedule a month’s worth of content in a few minutes! And from then on, Postcron does it for you!

Depending on the size or niche of each enterprise, the daily number of posts and even the social network may vary. But until you reach your ideal combination, you might want to start with:

    • Posting 3 or more times a day on Twitter
    • Posting 2x a day on Facebook
    • Posting 1x a day on LinkedIn
    • Posting 1 or 2 times a day on your Instagram feed and up to 4 times on your Stories.
    • Posting 5 or more times a day on Pinterest

    1. Turn your customers into friends. Engage with your audience!

Take some time to reply to your comments. Respond to questions, like and share posts of your interest. The more you engage with your customers, the more they will be interested in engaging with you.

It’s really important to give your customers a positive experience, and a great way to do this is to communicate with your audience and to make them feel like a real person is engaging with them (even if you are simply using response templates to speed up your work).

  • BazarCaller – the malware gang that talks you into infecting yourself – Cyber Security

BazarCaller – the malware gang that talks you into infecting yourself – Cyber Security

    [ad_1]

You’re almost certainly familiar with vishing, a phone-based scam in which cybercriminals leave messages on your voicemail in the hope that you’ll call them back later to find out what’s going on.

In fact, if you have a long-standing phone number, like we do, you may well get more of these scam calls (perhaps even many more of them) than genuine calls, so you’ll know the sort of angle they take, which often goes along these lines:

[Synthetic voice] Your Amazon Prime subscription will auto-renew. Your card will be billed for [several tens of dollars]. To cancel your subscription or to discuss this renewal, press 1 now.

Sometimes, they’ll read out the number to call them back on, to re-iterate not only that it matches the number that shows up in your call history, but also that it’s a local number, right there in your own town or country.

The crooks do this to “prove” that caller is local too, rather than sitting overseas in some scammy boiler-room call centre, far from the reach of law enforcement and the regulators in your part of the world.

Unfortunately, the number that shows up in your call history (known by various names around the world, including Caller ID and calling line identification) doesn’t tell you where the caller is actually located.

Firstly, Caller ID is easy to spoof, so crooks can disguise their real number, or make it look as though they’re calling from somewhere you trust, such as your bank.

Secondly, if it’s not spoofed, Caller ID doesn’t tell you where a returned call will ultimately end up, but merely reports the last known phone number that it passed through on the way to you.

If a call centre (or a cybercriminal) calls you from overseas using a voice-over-IP (VoIP) service, where the call is transmitted cheaply over the internet until it reaches your country and only then redirected into the phone network, you will see a local number in your call history, but it won’t actually be the caller’s ID. Always keep in mind that the name Caller ID is misleading because it doesn’t identify the person who called you at all. Even calling line identification is an inaccurate name, given that the number that shows up can be modified and therefore doesn’t reliably identify the calling line, either.

    Call us back

So, Caller ID can’t be trusted, and unexpected phone calls, like unwanted emails, could by-and-large have come from anyone.

That’s why many of us dump all our calls to voicemail these days, and respond only to the likely ones.

With this in mind, you may be wondering why crooks still bother running phone-based scams, especially when these require human interaction each and every time someone returns a call, unlike web-based scams, which largely look after themselves.

The answer, of course, is that variety is the spice of life, or, sadly, that variation is one of the secrets of scamming.

Sometimes, simply being different from what everyone has been told to watch out for is enough to get victims to let their guard down.

The other advantage, for the crooks, of runnning what you might call human-led scams instead of pure online ones is that the scammers in the call centre only ever deal with people who are already concerned enough to call back of their own accord.

In other words, call-back scamming may be a more time-consuming way of interacting with each potential victim, but:

    • Many people feel comfortable about carrying out risky computer behaviours such as installling unknown software if there is an “IT helpdesk” person talking to them at the same time.
    • Human scammers can adapt and respond in real time to objections or fears that potential victims might raise, thus keeping those callers on the hook for much longer than if they were left to their own devices.

    Call us first

As you probably know, there’s a fascinating world of hybrid scamming that mixes together email-based and phone-based treachery.

Technical support scammers – those lowlifes who find fake viruses on your computer and then charge you real money for pretending to remove them – have been doing this for years.

They know that potential victims have been taught “not to click through” and to “watch out for dodgy popup links”, so many scams these days invite you to call a local phone number instead of clicking a link or opening an attachment.

At first, this feels as though it should be safer, because you’re not immediately exposing your browser or your computer to a site or a file that you aren’t sure of.

There’s always a chance, you might think, to make your own judgment of the “helpdesk expert” at the other end…

…before typing in the link they just gave you, or installing the software they just recommended.

    Don’t click, call us instead

Unfortunately, as we wrote earlier this year, it’s not just the technical support scammers using this “don’t click a dangerous link, call this handy phone number instead” trick.

In April 2021, we warned of a malware crew using a similar trick to talk you into infecting yourself with their malware, known as BazarLoader (also known as BazaLoader), thus giving them a foothold on your computer to mount pretty much any sort of cyberattack they want:

Rather than deciding in advance whether they’re going to hit you with a keylogger, a data stealer or a ransomware attack, the crooks who talk to you on the phone helpfully explain how to open a booby-trapped Office file that they deliver to you.

By tricking you into bypassing the security checks that would otherwise keep you safe, they implant a general-purpose bot or zombie program onto your computer that can:

    • Download and run another programs, disguising them as an unexceptionable apps such as Notepad or Explorer.
    • Download and run DLLs, Windows software modules that many people think of as safer than EXE files because they aren’t standalone programs that you can launch as apps in their own right.
    • Download and run a batch file or PowerShell script. PowerShell is widely used by system administrators these days because it makes it easy to create full-blown Windows programs in the form of plain text files.
    • Get rid of itself from disk and exit. By cleaning up their malware tools after an attack, the crooks make it harder for you to figure out what happened and thus make it tricky to know what to look out for in future.

    BazarLoader is back

We’re writing this article now as a followup to a reminder that came from Microsoft itself last week, with the self-explanatory title:

BazaCall: Phony call centers lead to exfiltration and ransomware

As you can imagine, Microsoft takes this sort of attack at least as personally as anyone else, not least because the primary malware infiltration vehicle that the BazarLoader/BazarCaller crooks use is to talk you into infecting youself via some sort of Microsoft Office file.

Ironically, the crooks use the pretence that the file is “protected” and therefore needs to be handled in a special way – something that a crooked “helpdesk support team member” will glibly and happily tell you how to do.

Of course, the “special way” of handling the “protected” file, shown above as ENABLE EDITING and ENABLE CONTENT, involves turning off Microsoft’s default security settings, thus allowing malware embedded in the Office file to run, rather than blocking it.

In the latest round of attacks, you are urged via email by the BazarCaller scammers to phone them up if you want to “resolve” a “purchase” that was just debited to your account, such as:

    • Converting a software trial into an auto-billed “premium” paid package. (Call for details, or to cancel if this is an error, etc.)
    • Joining a fitness program you showed an interest in. (Call with included personal ID for help or details, etc.)
    • Autorenewing a service membership you’re already part of. (Call if you want to cancel, etc.)

The crooks know that you’ll know that you didn’t intend to make or authorise the purchase they’re warning you about.

They’re also hoping that you’ll want to check how the “mistake” happened, and get the charge removed from your card.

    Don’t do it!

    What to do?

    • Never assume that calling a phone number is safer than clicking on a web link. Either way could put you directly into contact with cybercrooks.
    • Never rely on contact details given to you by an outsider. If you are concerned about unauthorised payments taken off your card, contact your bank or card provider directly for advice. Always use the phone number or website on the back of your physical card, or printed on documentation that’s already in your possession.
    • Never change a security setting on your computer because someone you don’t know told you to. If you’re wondering whether a link is safe to download, or an Office file is safe to open, find someone you already know and trust (e.g. a member of your own IT team from work, or a trusted friend in your own circle) and ask them directly.
    • Never feel compelled to call a number back, whether you are being threatened or flattered. If you have any vulnerable friends or family whom you think might easily be misled on the phone, make sure they know to call you first.
    • Listen to our special podcast episode on social engineering. Phone scammers can be much more persuasive than messages received via email or the web. Phone scammers adapt their lies and treachery line by line as they go along, and typically have the “gift of the gab” to explain away any concerns you might have along the way.

    LEARN MORE ABOUT SOCIAL ENGINEERING

Listen to our special-episode podcast with Rachel Tobac, a renowned social engineering expert, and give yourself the confidence and understanding not to get sucked into saying or doing the wrong thing online:

Remember that gangs like the BazarCaller crew talk people into infecting themselves with malware, including ransomware, for a living.

Cybercrooks of this sort typically have a lot more practice in telling you what you want to hear, the way you want to hear it, than you have in picking out which bits of what they just said are a pack of lies.

If in doubt, don’t give it out!

  • How sustainable is your solar company? – Clean Energy

How sustainable is your solar company? – Clean Energy

    [ad_1]

ESG is having its day in the sun. Is your solar company as sustainable as it should be?

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing is having a watershed year, and for the solar industry, this momentum is great news. But solar companies may need to up the ante on their own sustainability efforts.  (This article is part one of a two-part series on solar sustainability strategies.)

As more organizations face the daily realities of climate impacts on their operations, supply chains, and ultimately, their bottom lines, ESG investing is at an all-time high. Covid-19 seems to be contributing to this trend. According to a recent survey by CoreData, 60% of fund selectors globally have become more focused on ESG since the start of the pandemic.

At the same time, cities, states and companies are making net zero pledges as never before. More than 700 cities in 53 countries worldwide have committed to halve emissions by 2030 and reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Meeting climate commitments will involve a quantum energy shift unlike any we’ve seen in our lifetimes.

But achieving net zero targets is much harder than setting them, and doing so in a way that considers every social and environmental implication is even more difficult, as recent allegations of forced labor in the Chinese solar supply chain attest.

    The solar sustainability conundrum

Solar and sustainability would seem to go hand in hand, but that’s not necessarily the case. For years, solar companies – from global manufacturers to local installation companies — have put ESG on the back burner, in part because the very product they’re offering is seen as inherently sustainable. But the new emphasis on sustainable supply chains means that’s simply not enough.

“It is a really big deal when, for an energy technology that is supposed to be clean, there are headlines about dirty processes, waste or poor labor relationships,” says Dustin Mulvaney, a professor at San José State University and author of several books on solar and sustainability, in a recent PV Magazine article. “Headlines like this could actually dissuade people to adopt and support solar – and solar depends to some extent on public support.”

Many solar companies, however, are taking leading roles in sustainability and ESG. SunPower was one of the first panel manufacturers to prioritize ESG. SunPower Maxeon DC panels were the industry’s first to become Cradle-to-Cradle Certified, an independent certification that scores a product’s environmental and social performance across five critical sustainability categories: material health, material reuse, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.

Maxeon Solar, the SunPower spinoff now responsible for its manufacturing sites outside the U.S.,  is carrying the torch forward with renewed emphasis on all areas of ESG. Both companies are signatories to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and both recently published their 2020 sustainability reports (see SunPower’s here and Maxeon’s here).

Aligning Your Solar Business With Your Customers’ ESG Strategies

Organizations with robust ESG strategies make ideal customers for solar companies. There’s no need to convince them of the benefits of solar from an economic, environmental and social perspective. They’re already focused on the right goals.

But many solar companies struggle to put the same emphasis on sustainability that brings commercial customers to them in the first place.

Over the past three years alone, the U.S. solar industry has doubled, in spite of the pandemic. Solar had a record-setting Q1 2021, according to the U.S. Solar Market Insight Report, with every sector — residential, commercial and utility-scale – growing significantly year over year.

With that kind of growth, solar companies should expect to set aside a portion of their budgets to build, measure and evaluate sustainability programs. Making sure your solar company has an ESG strategy in place will avert any sustainability concerns as your customers implement supply chain requirements.

Enter the Solar Supply Chain Traceability Protocol

The Solar Energy Industries Alliance (SEIA) recently introduced the Solar Supply Chain Protocol to help solar companies ensure the sustainability of its products. While not exhaustive, the protocol gives solar companies something that was sorely lacking until now: a roadmap for both identifying the source of a product’s material inputs and tracing its movements throughout the supply chain.

“The solar energy industry has a responsibility to mitigate and manage its full range of social and environmental impacts, which include respecting the human rights of workers, ensuring that the rights of communities and other stakeholders are respected, and making business operations safe and environmentally responsible.”

    SEIA Solar Supply Chain Protocol

ESG for Solar Companies: Where to Start

A sound ESG strategy involves more than just ensuring a sustainable supply chain — although this is a substantial effort. It involves every aspect of a business – from environmental practices to community involvement to hiring practices and social equity initiatives.

Developing an ESG strategy starts with engaging stakeholders, including employees, customers, investors, suppliers and partners. Doing so enables the material issues a company needs to focus on from a sustainability perspective to “bubble up” who have a real stake in the company.

  • Why is Optimizing Website Speed Essential for SEO in 2021? – Digital Marketing

Why is Optimizing Website Speed Essential for SEO in 2021? – Digital Marketing

    [ad_1]

Because of the expected slowdown in economic activity in 2020, e-commerce has exploded and digital transformation has accelerated. Many businesses have attempted, some for the first time, to replicate their in-person sales in digital stores.

But what makes a website work for your needs? Of course, you need authentic and engaging content as well as a social media presence. Above all, you need a website that is functional, fast, and secure. For starters, a fast and trustworthy website provides a positive user experience, which increases traffic to your site. Second, it boosts your chances of achieving a good SEO ranking, which means that potential clients will be able to find your website more easily. And your hosting provider can help you with all that.

If you run an agency, your hosting requirements will differ slightly from those of users who manage a single website. That is why choosing a fast and secure hosting service that provides you with powerful tools and support for optimizing and managing multiple websites is crucial for your agency’s success.

Why Is Website Speed Important to SEO?

The short answer is that a faster website provides a better user experience, leads to more traffic and conversions, all of which contribute to improved SEO and ranking. If you want to help your clients succeed, read on:

Google Considers Speed to be a Ranking Factor

In an effort to improve user experience on the web, Google has included page speed in their SEO ranking analysis since 2010. In 2020, Google announced that three new user experience metrics known as Core Web Vitals would be included as a ranking factor as part of the Google Page Experience. Google bots perform tests on a website based on those metrics, among others, to determine website speed.

    Speed Affects Your Conversion Rate

Consider this: how many times have you left a webpage because it was loading slowly? According to studies, the first five seconds of page-load time have the greatest impact on conversion rates, and each additional second reduces conversion rates by an average of 4.42%. Considering site speed from the start of an online project can have a significant impact on your success rate.

    Speed Impacts Your Bounce Rate

Slow site speed has a substantial impact on bounce rates. A page loading for 7 seconds is likely to have a 32.3% bounce rate. In comparison, a page that loads for 2 seconds can have around a 9.61% bounce rate. This correlation makes it clear why businesses need fast websites. Of course, the website’s content and design should excite visitors, but it should also be optimized to be light and fast while providing a fantastic user experience.

How to Choose a Hosting Provider

When it comes to creating a business website, one of the most crucial expenses is web hosting. When it comes to creating multiple websites, well, you need to be extra careful to check if the hosting provider offers the right tools for you. Here is a breakdown of some of the essential reasons why web hosting is so important:

    Web Hosting Speed

As we established in the beginning, people hate waiting and Google doesn’t like it when you make people wait. Putting things into context, 40% of visitors leave a website if it doesn’t load in as little as 3 seconds. So, if you want to improve website SEO rankings, the one thing you absolutely must have is a fast website. Make sure your hosting provider scores high on server speed.

    Web Hosting Security

If a website is not safe and well-maintained, it is at risk of getting hacked. If this happens, Google will begin not to “trust” that website, perhaps lowering its SEO ranks. An excellent hosting provider ensures that every part of your website runs smoothly. Ensure that your hosting company provides excellent server-side protection as well as tools to assist you in protecting your website.

    Web Hosting Reliability

Other than a fast website, you want a website that is up and running. Choose a hosting provider that offers a great uptime for its clients.

    Website Management

If you want to provide a great digital experience to your clients, you’ll need a reliable hosting provider with a user-friendly website management system that includes powerful features to simplify the complexities of running multiple websites.

On that note, SiteGround provides ultrafast hosting services powered by Google Cloud, cutting-edge technologies, and in-house-built interfaces for top speed, security, reliability, and ease of use. Some of their latest integrations include a faster MySQL setup, one-of-a-kind UltraFast PHP which makes your page load 30% faster on average, a unique caching tool available on all hosting plans, and more.

With SiteGround you’ll also find agency-specific functionalities. Their easy to navigate Client Area is designed to make the work of freelancers and web agencies easier by simplifying every step of creating and managing websites, like:

    • Easily manage multiple websites from a single dashboard
    • Add multiple members of your team as collaborators with delegated access
    • Transfer ownership to clients with just a few clicks

    How to Improve Website Speed

Starting with your hosting provider, here is a list of the best practices for improving website performance:

Choose a Fast and Reliable Web Hosting Provider

A reliable hosting provider enables your brand to provide high-quality services. With advantages ranging from better performance and security, your web host should provide you with an easy way to manage multiple websites without having to install hundreds of plugins. Are you still wondering how website hosting affects the success of your site? Well, everything connected to web hosting that is mentioned above like security, speed, reliability, and so on, are all elements for search engines and have a direct impact on SEO. And that’s why you should choose your hosting provider wisely.

Of course, once you’ve made your choice of a trusted hosting provider, there are a couple of actions and settings that are up to you to fine-tune:

    Optimize Media

Some good media optimization practices include compressing images without sacrificing quality, serving images in next-generation formats such as WebP, and lazy loading of static content.

    Enable Compression

Using file compression applications such as Gzip and Brotli will reduce the size of your CSS, HTML, and JavaScript files. This means that the browser will be able to load such files much faster, allowing you to increase your site speed and, as a result, SEO score.

    Enable Full-page Caching

Full-page caching means that the pages of your website are saved as HTML files on the server after the first time they are loaded. The whole page content from the database will be shown only on the first visit to your site. All of the others will obtain the page output directly from the server’s memory, which will make your site substantially faster, and improve your SEO score.

    Optimize Front-end

Reduce the actual size of your website page and improve loading time by using various front-end optimizations such as minifying CSS and JS files, optimizing fonts, and more.

    Use a CDN

Use a content delivery network (CDN) to reduce the time it takes for all of your visitors to load. The CDN will cache your content across a global network of servers and load your website from the closest one to the visitor, improving their experience with your page.

Optimizing website speed is an ongoing process that requires maintenance and following certain rules. It will become second nature once you get the gist of it. Creating beautiful websites, with authentic content that is fast and reliable will bring the online success of your business.

  • 5 Time-Tested Ways to Encourage Customer Reviews Using Emails – Media

5 Time-Tested Ways to Encourage Customer Reviews Using Emails – Media

    [ad_1]

A recent Local Consumer Review Survey revealed that 91 percent of 18 to 34-year-old consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations. In fact, research shows that the purchase likelihood for a product with five reviews is 270 percent greater than a product having no reviews.

The importance of reviews to a brand’s online reputation cannot be understated. Reviews, positive or negative, build customer trust, convert visitors into leads, and boost a brand’s local search ranking. Further, customer reviews offer marketers valuable insight into what customers think about their brand. Simply put, your current and future customers care about online reviews.

Emails have always been an effective marketing tool for businesses. An effective email campaign can be used to power a firm’s online review strategy. This is because a majority of customers prefer businesses communicating with them through emails. Refer to this chart.

    Source: https://theblog.adobe.com/consumers-are-still-email-obsessed-but-theyre-finding-more-balance/

What’s more? A Clutch survey of 1,000 online shoppers revealed that nearly one-quarter of online product reviews are prompted by email marketing. Emails make the review collection process outbound. So, rather than waiting for a review, you get to initiate the conversation and proactively ask your customers to leave you a review.

Find out how you can take full advantage of email marketing to accumulate customer reviews and build a five-star online reputation.

    • Personalization Is the Key

Statistics reveal, on any given day, there are nearly 124.5 billion emails sent and received each day. So, there are chances your email may not even be opened. Not everyone you send a review request email to will respond. However, personalizing your emails can help you stand out in the customer’s inbox, improving your chances of getting a review.

In a survey conducted by OneSpot, a leading individualization platform for content, marketers shared that they find dynamic and real-time personalization in emails to be the most effective review generation tactic. In fact, organizations personalizing their emails generated 17 percent more revenue from their campaign compared to marketers who did not.

Personalizing emails is one of the smartest tactics you can use to drive impulses and encourage customers review your product or service. Just mentioning their name or company name isn’t enough. Show how much you care about your customer’s choices by mentioning the specific product or service they opted for. Thank them for using your product and ask them how their experience was.

Check out how HopScotch, an ecommerce app for kids’ apparel, keeps its email short, simple, and to the point while making the customer feel special.

Tools like HubSpot Personalization Tokens make it easy for marketers to add tokens that are personalized to the email recipients. Using this tool, you can add the recipient’s name and contact details, company, deal, or ticket properties to send personalized emails and request your customers for a review.

    • Segment Your Customers Based on Their Email Activity

The needs and expectations of a first-time customer are different from those of a repeat one. Repeat customers are more loyal to your brand and may patiently share their views about the product, regardless of how many questions you ask. However, the same review format may not be work for a new user.

Hence, it is important to segment your email list based on your customer’s location, age, purchase history, and the date they subscribed. Email list segmentation will help you introduce a targeted campaign to gain insightful customer reviews. Befriend email marketing services like GetResponse, Constant Contact, and MailChimp to segment your email list and send appropriate review request emails to customers based on their actions at your store or on your website.

    • Make it Easy (and Tempting!) for Customers to Leave a Review

One of the best ways to improve customer response to your review requests is to make the process easy for them. You can simply add a review link that customers can click on to leave product feedback. Alternatively, you can generate a Google review link that will take the customer to your Google My Business page, allowing them to post a review and know more about your business.

Check out how Sugar Cosmetics offers a link that customers can effortlessly click on to leave a review.

Embedding the start or emoji rating in your follow-up emails is another way of persuading customers to leave a review for your business.

Adidas sends emails with a link to their landing page which is highly interactive and visual, reducing click fatigue and making the reviewing process quick and easy.

An attractive incentive like a voucher code or a discount can give customers the push required to leave a review. This tactic also drives customers back to your website once a reviewing process is completed. Check out how Tower, UK’s leading kitchen appliances firm, uses this tactic to its advantage.

Customers love seeing how their reviews have been put to use. For instance, a customer testimonial page on your website, featuring real reviews from your product users will not only boost your reputation and customer engagement but also encourage new customers to leave a review. Bonus: You also get UGC (user-generated content) for your brand.

Carefully determine when you want to send a post-purchase email asking for a customer review. The timing of this email hugely depends on the nature of your product.

For instance, ecommerce stores selling apparel or shoes can send a review request email within a week after the product is delivered. This is because, by this time, the customer would have surely used the product at least once.

On the other hand, products like an anti-aging cream or health supplements warrant a longer time between the purchase and review request email. The same goes for electronic goods or books too. In these cases, the customer takes a few weeks to fully experience the product and write a detailed review.

Understand how your customers are likely to use the product and fully engage with your brand and carefully decide the window when they are most likely to respond to a product review request. Use email automation to send relevant and timely emails to your customers.

    • Don’t Forget to Test the Effectiveness of Your Emails

You don’t know what type of messaging will work for which customer. Hence, it is important to test different emails with your target audience and assess whether or not they are successful in getting a review. A/B testing your review request emails can not only increase the chances of customers opening your email and leaving a review but also boost your website traffic and sales.

Test your email’s subject line, length, word order, content,  visuals, and CTA to determine the top-performing email templates. Online tools like Campaign Monitor and Sendinblue can offer you useful insights about your email campaign, enabling you to write engaging review request emails.

For instance, did you know that the subject line length can significantly improve your email’s CTR? A survey by Return Path shares that subject lines 61 – 70 characters long have the highest open rates. A/B testing your emails will point out to such factors and help you create winning emails that generate quality reviews.

    Summing Up

Customer reviews, whether positive or negative, offer insights into how your customers are perceiving your brand. However, the sheer thought of encouraging your customers to leave a review can be pretty overwhelming.

Your email list is an excellent resource that can help you get valuable customer reviews for your business. When done right, effective email marketing can make the review collection process easy and less stressful. Consider the aforementioned email marketing tips to nail your online review strategy and strengthen your brand reputation.

More evidence suggests that DarkSide and BlackMatter are the same group – Cyber Security

Researchers found evidence that the DarkSide ransomware gang has rebranded as a new BlackMatter ransomware operation.

BleepingComputer found evidence that after the clamorous Colonia Pipeline attack, the DarkSide ransomware gang has rebranded as a new BlackMatter ransomware operation. The experts analyzed encryption algorithms in a decryptor used by BlackMatter, which is actively attacking corporate entities.

BleepingComputer became aware of a victim that paid a $4 million ransom to BlackMatter gang. The company received by the cybercriminals gang both Windows and Linux ESXi decryptors.

BleepingComputer shared a decryptor from a BlackMatter victim with Emisosft CTO Fabian Wosar who confirmed that the new ransomware gang is using the same unique encryption methods (a custom implementation of Salsa20 matrix) implemented by the DarkSide.

DarkSide also used an RSA-1024 implementation unique to their encryptor, which is the same used by BlackMatter.

The above and other similarities, such as the similar text on the leak sites, suggest that BlackMatter rebrand from DarkSide.

    BlackMatter ransomware Darkside

On its leak site BlackMatter states that it doesn’t attack:

    • Hospitals.
    • Critical infrastructure facilities (nuclear power plants, power plants, water treatment facilities).
    • Oil and gas industry (pipelines, oil refineries).
    • Defense industry.
    • Non-profit companies.
